Exterior Drawing

Working on the exterior drawing of my porch and a swing, but trying to get an angle that I can extend it to the street to show depth. And here's some Ingres to show the loose to tight method of drawing. He works very lightly on the clothing and makes the faces pop. I wonder how long this sketch took to draw. If i build a time machine i will ask.....

Conte is the devil. I don't care what you say Jason, holding it that way does NOT feel natural, but I tried none the less. So my drawings all day yesterday looked like shit, because once again conte is the devil. I already can't draw, the last thing I need is something to make it harder. But I'm trying to upload some picture of my work from my phone and it's not letting me. I will try again later for everyone to laugh at.....

The Loop and Paper Assignment for homework seems to be kicking my ass. I don't know why, but for the last 4 hours I've been tryin to make this paper strip look like it's coming away from the wall, and yet it still continues to look like it's stuck straight against it. I'm giving this another attempt and seeing how it works, but someone give me a call if they think they can help.

Loose to Tight And Sketchbook Reviews

Thus far....I suck at loose to tight drawing. I'm starting to miss the ruler. But maybe with practice.... but anyways... the sketchbook critique didn't go as badly as I thought it might, other than the fact that I apparently have no confidence. Still not sure what that has to do with my sketchbook, but ok. But it is true that it needs a lot of work. I think I'm one of those people that is def intimidated by it. I'm never quite sure what to put, but seeing everyone else's helped.

Examples of blind contour....

Blind self portraits.......

What to say about blind self portraits? Well... I was having a little trouble because I wasn't sure if I was doing right. I had to draw from a mirror on the wall which means balancing the drawing board and trying to turn at an awkward angle, but other than that it seemed somewhat successful. I took my time with whichever one I was working on to try and really move my hand along with what I was seeing. The lines look a lot better than the ones I did in class...meaning they actually connected and have shape rather than just scribbles all over the page. I'm guessing that's somewhat of a good sign. But... only time will tell....

Speaking of line drawing.........

This is an image that my friend drew for her drawing 2 class showing planar analysis. She needs to give me a few tips on how to do this.

Planar Analysis

We've been working on planar analysis in class. I really like this image below. Note: I did not draw this, but I think it's a good example of what we've been asked to do minus the value study. As far as in class, I think I'm getting the hang of finding the forms and the planes but still haven't gotten done the line variation. I'll be working on it in the sketchbook though. We were also asked to do a planar analysis of a hanging drapery, such as this below. This was a little bit more difficult than the stuff we've been working on in class. It was really hard to make the drapery seem as though the folds were rounded, and the folds at the bottom were outrageous. Once again, another thing to work on in the sketchbook.

Moving on to two point perspective....

....and feeling a little bit better about it. In the last critique Mr. Jason said that my room looked a bit sparse. Unfortunately my house is sparse. College= no money to buy furniture. Therefore on the next assignment I'm going to try and get crafty and move furniture around as I draw. See how it works. I'm thinking the play list for this assignment will have to be the Fleet Foxes. Still trying to hold my pencil the way he told us to, and getting a little better at it, but only a little.

Zak Smith is an amazing artist. Plus he's a porn-star, so he really can't go wrong. Lol. The next two pictures are some examples: (of the art, not the porn)

Steadily working on 1 point perspective with boxes and room drawings.... all the while listening to The Velvet Underground.

Drawing 1 First Homework Assignment

I would not call this this assignment difficult, but more tedious. I was listening to the Pixies while doing this and toward the end I found myself drawing the lines according to the speed and sound of the music. I'm not sure as to how long it took to complete it, maybe 30 to 40 mins. I found that different pressures, speeds, and even pencils create different and unique lines.
